Today was a very sad day in our home. Our dear three pound chihuahua had to be put to sleep. My daughter is taking it the hardest. I wanted to post this tribute my daughter wrote and sent to all her friends:

"The life of Roxy D'Andrea. Born in Arizona in Spring 2000. Roxy was a great little runt reindeer chihuahua. She was always so friendly and playful. In late October 2009 one of her eyes went blind. In December 2010 she went full blind. We found out that she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and she has a cancer. Roxy's life ended on August 17, 2011 at around 4:30 p.m. Even though Roxy did have many problems throughout her life... she was the best little runt reindeer chihuahua ever! (: Grace :)"

Here's a necklace a had and I took out a photo of my children for now (I can order another) and put my daughter's favorite picture in it. I'll give it to her tomorrow when she wakes up.

Here is Roxy after they gave her the shot to help her relax and sleep. I took her bed because her body was hurting and she didn't like to be held to much. She curled up and went to sleep. I had about 30 minutes with her before the kind vet came and got her to give the final medication. I chose not to be there for that part...it's a tough choice either way.

We will miss you Roxy. You were kind, gentle and loving.

Jumping Jack Memories

Years ago I was at a college advisor's home in Ruston, LA. I was treasurer for the Panhellenic Council at Louisiana Tech University and Fran was our adviser. She mentored me and I respected her intellgience, generosity and style. Her home was filled with beatuy and charm. She had Chistmas trees with "themes" This was the first time I had seen such a thing (although it seems quite common now). It was 1989 and I decided I wanted to start a "theme" for a tree. I had always been fond of a snowman jumping jack I had since I was a child so I decided I would have a Jumping Jack tree.

Here are a few of my collection.

The Wizard of Oz collection is one of my favorites. However, I only found the lion, tinman and scarecrow years ago in Solvang, CA. Dorothy is still missing...

My favorite is the snowman which I got when I was a little girl.

He's the first of my collection and my inspiration.

This Mother Goose is one of my unique finds. I love the little porcelain doll. I have three teeny tiny jumping jacks I found for $4.25 each in Santa Barbara years ago. The Santa is one. (I know the price because I left the tag on.) I also have a lamb and a piggy.

I'm on the lookout for jumping jacks but don't seem to shop as much as I once did so my collection isn't growing very quickly. I'd love to hear any of your jumping jack stories!

Well, it's September again. I remember people telling me how fast time would fly by. I never could have imagined how true this statement would be. I am so proud of the young adults I see my children becoming. I see how they are becoming less like Mom. They are become individuals with their own taste in music, clothing and how clean a room needs to be!

What a blessing it is to see my babies grow up. I am forever thankful for their health and big hearts.

This week I had my first Mother Daughter Week with my sweet little girl. One of the best parts of our trip was our visit to Crown & Crumpet Tea Room located in Ghirardelli Square. We had Tea for Two which you can see in the picture. Here is what was included:

	Selection of eight tea sandwiches
	Four warm house-made scones with clotted cream, jam & lemon curd
	Two toasted crumpets with butter
	Eight house-made sweets & treats
	Two large pots of tea

We each chose our own tea. I loved Paris and my daughter loved something called Strawberry Fields (or something close to that name). We were just stuffed and took some of our treats with us to snack on as we toured San Francisco. If you're ever in the area...I highly recommend Crown and Crumpet! The troops are near and dear to our hearts here at Michele Baratta atHome. We’re a San Diego based company and we are surrounded with military bases. Recently we launched www.ProjectSalute.org which is our way of honoring the families of the Military. Be sure to check it out and say “Thank You” to our troops!

What traditions do you have to honor those who have served our country? Memorial Day, for many, is a day to barbecue and celebrate with family & friends. This summer I've planned on getting back to the "basics" with my kids. I'm excited to slow down and look for those teachable moments. To kick off the summer, I am going to start a new tradition by sending a care package to overseas military personnel. Consider other ways that you might be able to let those serving know that you appreciate their efforts, such as making and sending thank you cards, or sending thank you emails.

This year why not take this day and spend it with your family, honoring our troops. Consider starting your own Memorial Day tradition that you can pass down through the years.

It must be another case of PMS I was telling myself for the last two days.

I've kept this in mind each month for the last few years.

I try to hear what my body is telling me instead of pushing it down until it's over.

This week I'm missing my children's younger years. I was so busy being a single mom, working every summer for the last seven years, that I feel I somehow missed a part of their childhood. I can't go back in time. Even if I could, I would still have to get up and work everyday...even in the summer. All I have is today. Today, I think I'll turn off the computer and the work calls this afternoon and really be in the moment with my kids. Today, I'll Listen to my soul. I guess it's not just another case of PMS.

Do any of you have trouble sleeping? I've had trouble going to sleep since I was in college. I could stay up all night...but regret it in the morning. Tonight, my head was full of worries and frustrations. I started looking up quotes (I love the nougats of truth and insight I find in simple phrases.)

I started a Facebook Group called I Pray for My Kids. Come by and say Hi. I'm going to try spend less time on the thoughts which cause me stress...and try to fill my mind with positive and insightful ideas.

I was listening to a friend tonight. She was talking about New Years Resolutions. Discouragement was in her voice as she said she never lived up to her resolutions. Then I heard her voice change. Positive energy was coming from her as she told me how her husband always encouraged her to make the resolutions...even if she didn't think she could live up to them. He went on to encourage her by telling her that if we don't shoot for "something"...we'll get "nothing". He also told her that making 50% of her goals was far better than not trying.

Amen to this man!

I was about to back out of the New Years Resolutions I have churning in my brain. Now...I think I'm going to shoot for them...ALL of them. I might even add a few.

Because...if I only make it half way...it's more than if I don't try. Who knows...maybe I'll make it 80%...or even... 100.

Today I was able to do something I haven't done in maybe 20 years. I sat on the sofa a watched a movie with a great girlfriend. It was rainy and we had no makeup on. I felt so safe being at her home...I feel safe knowing she's my friend.

I had many jumbled thoughts in my head today. I'll take the three that seem to keep popping up.

First, I'm too busy. I know...we're all busy. I've had a break this week and feel blessed to have this time with my children and friends.

Second, I'm lucky to have a few good friends. I feel blessed to have Real friends who can talk and learn and grow together. I feel safe lately with my friends...safe to know they understand I am on a journey...and hope they are safe to live their journey with me.

Last...To everything there is a Season. There is even a time to rest...
